I'd seem something similar to this in a gallery in Denver, and instead of buying the photo I challenged myself to recreate something like it. I was out for a run one day and the sunset was beautiful. This photo was taken with my iPhone and those are the actual colors of the sky coming through. This image is basically a black and white image layered over the color version and then I pull the color from various sections back into the black and white layer and you end up with this effect. To me it looked like a stained glass sunset when I was done.
