Artist's Description

DECEPTION ISLAND - These are old tanks that were part of whaling operations on Deception Island in Antarctica. When the ship pulled in and I saw this I immediately imagined it as a huge Richard Serra installation. They were definitely not the type of structures I was expecting to see and I spent a big chunk of my time walking through and around them. At one point I was looking up while rounding a corner and heard the growl of a large fur seal which we were supposed to be looking out for because they don’t like intruders in their space and won’t hesitate to charge you.
